WHO WE ARE

The Trustees of SEF

The SEF team includes individuals with substantial experience in conservation of wildlife, protected area management and capacity building people, who have these interests, for tourism and related skills.

Mr Gladman Buthelezi
Executive Director Commercial Operations Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has been a protagonist in the field of both conservation and ecotourism over the past 20 years: Chief Conservator Zululand Districts, Regional Manager Maputaland, General Manager Zululand Executive Director Commercial Operations. In 1995 Mr Buthelezi was awarded a scholarship for one year to study a Master of Professional Science in Natural Resources and Tourism at Cornell University, USA; Currently studying his Master of Science in Tourism Development and Management at the University of Buckinghamshire, England. Mr Buthelezi is expected to provide strategic management and direction to ensure that tangible benefits for both Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and local communities are derived from commercial operations, inside and outside protected areas with specific emphasis on the Public Private Partnership process, outsourcing opportunities and the emerging market.   He was awarded the Paul Harris award from Rotary International.

Dr Heinz Kohrs
Successful veterinarian (full-time rural practice in Pongola), conservationist and businessman. He is a co-owner of the elephants that are in the Pongola Game Reserve. Together, with his family, runs a very successful five star Game Lodge, White Elephant Safari Lodge. He is the Founder Trustee of the Space for Elephant Foundation.

Mr Digs Pascoe - SEF Chief Executive Officer
A graduate Engineer with a Diploma in Ecology.  His discovery of the largest emerald deposit in the world 30 years ago, in Zambia, led him to become involved with community development projects.  He attended rural project study tours overseas.  He has been awarded the I.B.C. Cambridge, England award for outstanding contribution to knowledge and understanding.  Other awards include recognition for dedication to Tourism development in Kwa-Zulu Natal.   A Founder Trustee of Space For Elephants Foundation.  Has served on the tourism board, local radio board, and many conservation forums.  A dedicated Rotarian with 30 years in service.

Dr Marion Garaï - Chairperson SEF
Study of Zoology at the University of Zürich, Switzerland, with specialisation in ethology. Diploma (MSc) on the Social behaviour of elephants in captivity.  PhD with specialisation in Zoology on The Development of Social and Stress Related Behaviours of Translocated Juvenile Elephants, University of Pretoria, South Africa 1998.  Member of the IUCN/SCC African Elephant Specialist Group since 1994 Elephant coordinator for the Rhino & Elephant Foundation during 1996. Acting Chairperson of the Rhino, Elephant and Wildlife Foundation during 2000.  Vice Chair of the Committee for the Training and Welfare of Elephants.  Founder of the Translocated Elephant Information Centre (TEIC) in 1992, which was incorporated into the Elephant Management & Owners Association - EMOA- in 1994.  Chairperson of EMOA from 1994 - 2006.  Trustee of Space for Elephants Foundation since 2001. Chairperson of Space for Elephant Foundation since 2005.

Mr Jasper Cloete
He holds a diploma in Projects Management from Newport University.  He is owner, Projects Director and Program Manager of Afrigroup Holdings (Pty) Ltd., Afrigroup Developments (Pty) Ltd., and Duck Investments (Pty) Ltd in Stellenbosch.  In the past he was:  Founder Director of PMG Africa; Director of Stocks & Stocks (Housing); Project Manager of GIBB Africa and Founder Member of CSM Project Manaement.  He is involved in various community projects.
